The Attack on Health Care Continues (click here for more Info)

House Passes Bill to Gut the Affordable Care Act

This afternoon, the House voted 217-213 to pass the American Health Care Act (AHCA/H.R. 1628). The AHCA deeply rolls back the protections and coverage found in the Affordable Care Act. The AHCA will strip 24 million people of their coverage, allow for discrimination based on pre-existing conditions and waive regulations requiring insurers to cover essential health benefits (maternity care, substance abuse treatment, hospitalization, etc.). The AHCA eliminates taxes for corporations and the wealthiest, while keeping the so-called “Cadillac Tax” that we’ll ultimately end up paying.

Attention now turns to the Senate, where we can expect changes – and another heated debate.
