Women of Steel Purse Collection for RDVIC

Local 8-957 Women of Steel collected and delivered over 40 purses filled with needed items like hair brushes, deodarant, tooth paste, tooth brushes, and a variety of other personal care items to the Rape and Doemestic Violence Center and to Christian Help. We would like to thank the membership for their donations and thank all those who participated in this event.  photo

USW Local 8-957 WOS makes surprise Easter visit to Mapleshire Nursing Home.

We were greated by 90 + residents who enjoyed visiting with the members of WOS. Also present were kids and dogs !

The Women of Steel met with Christian Help's Executive Director Cheryl Hines to present gifts purchased for the 13-15 year olds. Thank you to everyone who purchased candy bars and supported our efforts for the 2013 Toys for Tots toy drive. Read more >>>

On behalf of Local 8-957 Women of Steel ... ...we'd like to thank our local membership for your generosity and all that you did to make our holiday food drive a success. Because of your efforts, we were able to deliver 13 boxes of food to the Marion and Monongalia County food pantries. Read more >>>

USW District 8 WOMEN OF STEEL (WOS) was recognized November 2, 2013 at the State 4-H Volunteer Leaders' Banquet. Through the efforts of their members, $5,000.00 was raised for scholarship funds for 4-H residential and day camps. Read more >>>

Members of the United Steelworkers Local 8-957 Women of Steel donated over 100 backpacks for Christian Help and volunteered on distribution day. Families lined the street in downtown Morgantown to wait their turn to pick out clothing items and backpacks filled with school supplies.photo

Women of Steel would like to thank the membership of local 8-957 for their support by purchasing candy bars in the cafeteria.  Over 700 children from Marion, Monongalia and Preston Counties received backpacks and were very thankful for our help.

Your continued support will help us fund the Toys for Tots and Nursing Home projects.

We would like to recognize the Women of Steel for all the hard work and effort that went into the Food Drive. This was a great success and we would like to thank the membership in supporting this function and for all the donations that were given. The donations were donated to the Raymond Wolfe Center of Preston County and were greatly appreciated. Read more >>>



The Women of Steel held the Regional Women of Steel meeting at the Ramada Inn on March 24, 2012. Several Locals from District 8 participated in the training and it was a very productive time. Several members from the West Virginia Legislature attended and spoke. Those members included House of Delegates members Linda Longstreth (D-Marion - District 43), Barbara Evans Fleischauer (D – Monongalia – District 44) and Charlene Marshall (D – Monongalia – District 44). Ronnie Watson from USW Rapid Response also attended and gave a presentation on the ongoing events for Rapid Response. We thank everyone who participated. See photos

We would like to commend all those who participated in the Women of Steels collection for the US Troops. They collected and mailed over 130 lbs of supplies overseas to support our troops abroad. This is a great cause and our Women of Steel have once again done a tremendous job. We thank everyone who participated...     See photos

Report from Carla Shultz...     I want to take this opportunity to thank the union membership for allowing me to attend this years Health Safety and Environment Conference last week in Pittsburgh. Over 1400 attendees from the US and Canada were in attendance. Its sponsored by our union USW, The CWA (Communication workers of America) with the assistance of the Tony Mazzocchi center which is a project of the Steelworkers and CWA and the Labor Institute.
