Dear Brothers and Sisters:

Your negotiating committee met with Crowely on Feb 29th, March 1st and 2nd in Anchorage at the Crowley office. Present for the union were Hank Ulery, Dan Myrick, Tyler Peterson, Jeremy Grenville and Glenn Trimmer (Sec.Treasurer of 4959). The company had Lee Egland, Leah McQuire, Walt Tague, Greg Pavellas, Brandon Leary and Sandy Tang. Over these 3 days of meetings, we heard the state of the company speech on how they lost money for the first time, and there have been cuts compnay wide to help weather this economic crisis that the country has been in. Including how admin wasn’t getting a raise, and how many other contracts had taken a 0% raise with shortened contracts, all in the effort of getting through this rough patch.

Beaumont, Texas—Three hundred United Steelworkers (USW) delegates from the oil sector met last week in Dallas to form, debate and adopt the National Oil Bargaining Policy (NOBP) for 2012 negotiations.

Under the National Oil Bargaining process USW oil units have 45 days to present the program to their members and have them vote on it. A vote for the policy authorizes USW International Vice President Gary Beevers, who heads the union’s oil sector, to call for a strike nationally or at specific locations.

How do dues support members in oil?

The United Steelworkers International (USW) works hard to serve you and your local union members.  While you may not see every individual working on your behalf, they are focused on providing the information and support necessary to promote, protect and defend the wages, benefits, safety and security that union members deserve.

The following is a brief description of many of the USW's resources available to you and your fellow members, beyond those you may already know.
