On November 28, 2011, Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. locked out 1,050 members of USW Local 207L in Findlay, Ohio.

The Homer Wilson Scholarship was named in honor of Homer Wilson, a former Director of District 9. It was established for children of District 9 Steelworkers who qualify. Those eligible to compete are the children of a member in good standing of a United Steelworker local union in District 9 and are a high school student graduating between January and July of the year the scholarship is awarded.
