House Passes Comp Time Bill.
We Can Stop it in the Senate.

Yesterday evening, the House voted 229-197 to pass the misleadingly-named “Working Families Flexibility Act” (H.R. 1180). This corporate-backed bill would replace our guaranteed overtime pay system with a new “comp time” alternative that gives our employers the “flexibility” while we ultimately get less pay and more unpredictable schedules.

Comp Time Bill Moving in the House

The U.S. House could vote in the coming weeks on a bill that would replace our guaranteed overtime pay system with a new “comp time” alternative.

The misleadingly-named “Working Families Flexibility Act” (H.R. 1180) is a serious concern. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, corporate human resource organizations and other big-business interests are lining up in support of the bill.

Goal is to Dismantle Labor Unions 

House Republicans plan to introduce a bill Wednesday that would institute right-to-work policies in the entire country if it became law, delivering a severe blow to the labor movement.

Right-to-work laws give workers the option to stop supporting unions while still enjoying the benefits of representation. There’s nothing new about such proposals being made in Washington ? what’s different now is the political climate, which should alarm labor unions and their allies.

GRANITE CITY, ILL. — The leather suitcase was filled with tiny booklets of different colors. Orange. Red. Brown. The collection of steelworker union contracts stretched back decades. Phil Chism kept them around for moments like this. He dug through the pile until he found a yellow one. The 1977 labor contract.
