USW 12003 UPDATE
Brothers and Sisters, As I follow up to my email from yesterday afternoon I would like to take the opportunity to provide you with more information. As I indicated both sides took time educating the federal mediators on their positions and all remaining issues. As I pointed out, the union gave the company a comprehensive proposal in hopes of moving the parties to an agreement. This is the third attempt by the union since the company’s final offer that the union has submitted a proposal to the company. However, despite the unions efforts, the company has not moved off their final offer which the membership overwhelmingly rejected. The parties are scheduled to meet tomorrow morning at 10am with the assistance of the Federal Mediators. It is the unions objective (as it has been since day one of bargaining) to reach a fair and equitable agreement by Sunday at midnight. Failure to reach an agreement leaves a number of options available to the parties. The option the parties have is for the union to call a strike and cease work, the company could lock out the union, or the parties could continue to work under the current terms and conditions of employment and continue the bargaining process. At this point in time it is not the unions intention to call for a strike and cease work. We are hoping cooler heads prevail and the parties continue to bargain to reach a new collective bargaining agreement. As time permits over the next couple of days up to the deadline, we will update the membership of changes or issues that may arise. Please be strong, united and hang in there. Joe Kirylo President In solidarity
